Employment Benefits

Benefits:

Iarnród Éireann offers various benefits, some of which include Pension Scheme, Welfare Scheme, Employee Assistance Scheme, Family Doctor Scheme, In-house Pharmacy and the issue of local and continental travel passes.

Training Opportunities:

Iarnród Éireann has a long history of training staff internally to meet the operational requirements of the Railway (Loco Drivers, Signal Persons, Craft Apprentices etc.) The Training Centre has now been enlarged and courses to meet the broader requirements of people management skills have commenced.

In addition, the Duaiscéim Scheme by which staff are supported in obtaining further educational and personal development was recently updated to extend its scope by including support for courses not directly "job related" and by paying "up front" for fee support rather than post examination support. This scheme also provides for paid study and examination leave.

The Aistriú Scheme provides staff with the opportunity to seek experience in a new job and/or location or department by volunteering to do so as an alternative to the narrow competitive promotional challenge.

Iarnród Éireann has developed a scheme by which employees who have participated in a competition for a promotional position and who wish to have feedback specific to their performance may obtain this on a confidential basis. The initial results of this scheme have been very positive.
