Tickets and their Use

  • Passengers must be in possession of a valid ticket.
  • Tickets are non-transferable, remain the property of Iarnród Éireann and must be produced when requested.
  • All children under three years of age travel free, children 15 and under can avail of child fares. Evidence of age may be requested.
  • Children travelling to and from school only may avail of discounted schoolchild 5 day tickets during school terms. These tickets are valid for travel up to 1700hrs Monday to Friday only. School children must be 15 or under to avail of these fares.
    School children must have a valid suburban rail ID. Application forms available at local stations or from the Suburban Office, Pearse Station. Tickets valid only with ID cards.
  • Students between the ages of 16 and 18 can avail of discounted Scholar 5 day tickets on production of a suburban rail ID card. Application forms available at local stations or from the Suburban Office, Pearse Station. Tickets valid only with ID cards.
  • All passengers must validate their tickets before commencement of journey.
  • Any tickets not used within the prescribed period of validity are no longer valid for use.
  • Tickets which are lost or stolen will not be replaced.
  • Break and resumption of journeys is not allowed to holders of single or return tickets.
  • Tickets can only be used for journeys/zones stated on the ticket.
  • Forged, mutilated or defaced tickets will not be accepted for travel.
  • Holders of Department of Social Welfare travel passes must obtain a ticket before travelling.
  • Validating machines, where provided, must be used.
