 Guidance on Third Party Works
Introduction
Outside people or agencies frequently wish to carry out works which affect the railway. There are many examples of this, which can range from such as pipes under the railway, construction of bridges or other structures over the line. In this context, we call such people "third parties".
The Railway Safety Act 2005 places an obligation on all persons carrying out any works on or near the railway to ensure that there is no increase in risk to the railway as a consequence of these works.
In the interests of national development, IÉ aims to facilitate works by a third party in a timely manner while safeguarding the railway's interests, of which a primary one is of course safety.
